Perth's LGBTI hockey team The Python's get international attention

The fundraising calendar created by Perth’s LGBTI Hockey team The Pythons has got a whole lot of international attention.

The calendar which features members of the local team and professional hockey players posing on hockey fields and some of Perth’s most scenic beaches has caught the eye of British magazine Gay Times and popular US website Queerty.

The Calendar project, led by Reid Smith, aims to combat homophobia by showing that everyone can play hockey. The calendar was made in response to a statistic from the Out on the Fields study, which found that 80% of participants had experienced or witnessed homophobia while playing or watching sport.

Voodoo sponsored players, Gabi Nance, Tom Craig & Dylan Wotherspoon are elite athletes in the Australian Hockey program and allies of the LGBTI community.

They put their bodies on the line, literally, and braved a chilly 6:00am shoot down at Swanbourne Beach to prove that making sport more inclusive was important to them.

The team have also recently celebrated the success of their Pride Cup match which saw hundreds spectators turning out to see a fun competition game during the recent Pride Festival.

Head to the Pythons website to buy your copy of the calendar, it’s the perfect Christmas gift for your gay mates!
