Fire up the rumour mill: Is Cher coming to Mardi Gras 2018?

In 2018, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras will celebrate 40 years of LGBTI Pride here in Australia and it’s sure to be the biggest we’ve ever seen.

Rumours that Cher will be the headline performer at the iconic after party are reaching fever pitch with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting sourcing saying contracts are yet to be signed, but it’s looking likely that the 71 year-old disco diva will be heading down under.

The country’s largest queer party has drawn some of the biggest stars to headline the official after party – including Kylie & Dannii Minogue, Chaka Khan, Boy George, George Michael, RuPaul, Cyndi Lauper, Jake Shears, Nick Jonas and Rufus Wainwright … but could 2018’s guest top them all?

Last week speculation that Cher would appear at Mardi Gras was fueled by a now deleted post from radio station KIIS.fm.

The entertainer also posted a mysterious tweet asking where she would be in March – when the Mardi Gras Parade and After Party are held.

It’s not the first time Cher has been rumoured to perform

Cher’s son Chaz Bono was a guest at Mardi Gras in 2014, back then he ruled out his mother appearing as a guest.

In 2014 rumours circulated after Mardi Gras launched a promotional video recreating the singer’s iconic If I Could Turn Back Time video. The big guest in 2014 was Tina Arena, pictured at above with Chaz Bono at a Mardi Gras red carpet event.

Since then rumours that Cher would be the headline guest have become an annual occurrence.
