Local band Lionizer have just released a new song and an accompanying video. The Unartist sees lead singer Vez singing a refrain of “Go write your song” as advice for people who are filled with advice for the band.

Bailey Lions, the band’s drummer, told us how the new tune came about.

“We’ve been a band for nearly 6 years, and I don’t think we’ve played a show yet where someone hasn’t come up to us after with “constructive criticism” on what we’re doing wrong or what we need to be doing to “make it”.

“People who really needed us to know that we’d be so much better with a bass, or slower tempo, or acoustic, or if we used different gear, or stopped being so sarcastic, or whatever. And after all these years, it’s finally time to tell these people to shut the hell up.” Lions said.

The video was filmed during the recording of Lionizer’s debut album New Parts of Me down at Brainiac Studios. The band describe The Unartist as being all about doing your own thing and not letting other people tear you down for it.

“We’re going to do our own thing, whether you like it or not. If you wanna come along for the ride, hop on! If you think we’d be better if only we’d just whatever, then go write your own songs ‘cos we’re done singing for you.” Lions said.
