The sporting star, who opened up about his sexuality in 2015 after he competed at the Sochi Winter Olympics, where he picked up a silver medal.

He is the second athlete, who has shared their same sex attraction, to join the US team. Figure skater Adam Rippon will be competing in the figure skating, he’s recently been critical of the decision to have US Vice President Mike Pence lead the US delegation – given Pence’s long history of opposing LGBTI rights.

The Olympian won a place on the team after after winning the Slopestyle Finals in Colorado last week, and for taking second place at the Freeski Slopestyle Finals in Mammoth Mountain, California.

Kenworthy posted an image to his social media accounts showing his modeling the opening ceremony outfits the US team will wear. The outfits were designed by Polo by Ralph Lauren.

He’s also featuring in a new TV commercial for ‘Head and Shoulders’, which has been seen as a groundbreaking inclusion of a gay sports star in a major brand TV commercial.

The Winter Olympics kick off on 9th February and run until 25th February.
