Electric Fields shock Perth Festival's Chevron Gardens to life

Electric Fields are a genre defying duo comprised of the Olympic level vocalist Zaachariaha Fielding and producer, singer and keyboard bandit Michael Ross. Having been through the reality singing completion grinder, (both appeared on The X Factor and Zaach also lent his extraordinary voice to The Voice), they have teamed up to form a double act.

Combined, the pair have been described as a gender bending blend of Nina Simone meeting Daft Punk in the deep jungle. Mixing lyrics performed in Zaach’s traditional language spoken by the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) people with English, the infectious blend of soul, electro, disco and pop is a hard one to resist.

Zaach hails from South Australia’s APY lands and both are gay but Electric Fields can’t be pigeon holed as a queer or indigenous act. They describe themselves as two feminine brothers and they pair released their debut EP Inma in 2016 which was featured on JJJs Unearthed program. Michael also composed the song Equal Love that has been used by the marriage equality campaign in the USA.

On the main stage at Perth Festival’s Chevron Garden at Elizabeth Quay they performed a mesmerizing set list of original material with covers like their beautiful interpretation of Rozalla’s perennial club anthem Everybody’s Free. When a performer can transform your day in the space of four minutes you know you are in the presence of something truly special. It’s simply impossible to not feel good listening to Fielding’s soaring vocals and not be transfixed by his powerful stage presence. Watching Zaach and Michael perform together you get a genuine sense of the ‘brotherhood’ that they share and the love spills over into the audience

When asked what motivates him to create and perform music Zaach stated “honestly I’m still learning and evolving, it’s a work in progress. We’re planting a seed and who knows what kind of flower will grow”.

You can find Electric Fields on Soundcloud and Apple Music. For more of what’s on at Perth Festival, check out their website.
