Perth band September Sun will launch their new single Forbidden Love at the Rosemount Hotel’s Four5Nine Bar this Saturday night 17th March.

Vocalist and lyricist Pete Knott told OUTinPerth the band’s latest release deals with themes of alienation, equality and acceptance.

“Everyone has the right to love, to feel accepted and to be free of alienation,” Knott said.

Forbidden Love is the latest single from the indie rockers. Last year was a productive time for the band, but after an in-flux of newly written material they couldn’t resist heading back into the studio to do it all again, but this time with some extra elements.

Forbidden Love is described as featuring strong lyrical content, soothing instrumental pop over-tones and driving melody. Aside from the band’s regular members it also  features the vocal talents of Perth musician Dorothy Helfgott, and a ten piece choir.

Pete Knott said that marriage equality was just one of the issues he was thinking about when writing the song. .

“For me, this track is about addressing the ongoing issue and importance of equality and social acceptance in society. It starts with the understanding of one’s personal perception of others, this goes well beyond topics such as gay marriage, and the gender gap; this is about deconstructing the fundamentals of social conformity that many have accepted to be the norm.”

The artwork for the new song also follows through on the themes, it features a heart wrapped in rainbows and affixed with a transgender symbol.

The new tune will feature alongside their previous single Stalemate, that was released in June 2017, and also along with two other unreleased tracks, to form a follow-up EP to be released in late 2018.

September Sun launch Forbidden Love at Four5Nine Bar, North Perth on Saturday, March 17 with special guests JAG, Scarlet Drive and Flyball Gov’nor.
