Israel Folau tweets bible verse about persecuted Christians

Rugby star Israel Folau has tweeted a bible verse about Christians being persecuted following criticism over his comments saying that God sends gay people to hell unless they repent.

Last week Folau was criticised for his comments on Instagram, and the story has made headlines around the world. Today the rugby player posted a cryptic message quotes passages from the Book of Matthew.

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

“Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” the passage reads.

The Wallabies player is set to meet with club officials on Tuesday to discuss his most recent social media controversy.

The Australian Rugby team’s major sponsor QANTAS has expressed it’s disappointment in Folau’s views but says it will not be pulling its sponsorship.
