New Zealand TV shows expose on gay conversion therapy

New Zealand’s Sunday program have aired an expose on gay conversion therapy. The show went undercover to infiltrate religious organisations that offer ‘pray the gay away’ courses and counseling that suggests you can change your sexuality.

Broadcaster TVNZ says it was threatened with legal action over the report, but decided to air it anyway believing it was in the public interest to see what goes on in some religious organisations.

Their investigation found church organisations, trainee counselors and school teachers who offered various methods and techniques to turn gay people into straight people, all of them however denied that what they offered was conversion therapy.

You can watch the full report below.

FULL CLIP: Controversial gay conversion therapy happening in NZ

This is the story you almost didn’t get to see.
On Friday we were threatened with legal action if we didn’t agree to demands to pull this story about gay conversion therapy.
But we think it’s important to show you this is happening in New Zealand in 2018.
And as you’ll see, the men who’ve been through this controversial therapy say it’s harmful, and psychologists believe it’s unethical.
Please let us know your thoughts.
