We’ve known for months that Cher is appearing in the new ABBA musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. 

When the trailer dropped we found out that Cher plays the mother of Meryl Streep’s character Donna – and that Cher would be singing the ABBA classic Fernando. Cher’s performed the song live at a film convention and we expect she’ll be singing it on her upcoming Australian tour.

Now you can hear Cher’s rendition of the epic tune in full for the first time.

ABBA had some many massive hits they didn’t even manage to fit them all into the first musical.

Fernando was one of ABBA’s big hits, it held the record for the longest a song has spent in the number one spot in the Australia charts. It spent 14 weeks in the top spot in 1976 – a record ABBA held for 41 years until it was beaten by Ed Sheeran’s Shape of YOu just last year.

The track was the first song ABBA released just as a stand alone single, officially it was not part of an album – but here in Australia it was added to their Arrival album.

Originally the song appeared on a solo record for ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The original version in Swedish had completely different lyrics and told a different story.

Mamma Mia – Here We Again is expected to be released in July, 10 years after the first film was a box office smash.
