Building Better Relationships

Stereotypes of homosexuals and polygamy aside, recent reports have shown gay relationships seem to withstand time better than heterosexual marriages.

The Office of National Statistics figures in the UK have shown straight married couples end their relationship at twice the rate same-sex couples in civil partnerships do.

According to London’s Telegraph, the figures show 2.5 per cent of civil partnerships end in the first four years and 5.5 per cent of marriages end in the same amount of time.

However, no matter how good the figures are Relationships Australia reinforces the fact that there is always room for improvement.

The organisation has introduced the Building Better Relationships course, targeted at same-sex couples, that aims to inform participants of the ways they can improve and strengthen relationships. The course is said to enable the learning of such skills through experimental exercises and discussion.

The course also covers differences and similarities between homosexual relationships and our heterosexual counterparts. It also touches on topics such as communication skills, managing emotions and conflict resolution skills.

The Building Better Relationships course will be held from November 11- 13, 2011 at 15 Cambridge Street. For more information, call 9489 6322.
