On March 21st last year The Greens senator took a dig at Liberal MP Peter Dutton who had just days earlier told business leaders who supported marriage equality that they should “stick to their knitting”.

Senator Rice got knitting and began making a rainbow scarf. Now the senator has donated the scarf to Australia’s Gay and Lesbian Archives.

The volunteer based organisation has been collecting materials relating to the LGBTIQ community since 1978 and has a huge depository of materials that are available to researchers.

The archivists have collected a wealth of material during the long running marriage debate including copies of the final bill, politicians notes on their speeches and copies of the proposed amendments to the bills.
