Characters Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) and David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) will exchange vows after their engagement earlier this year.

Honda says it’s an absolute privilege to be a part of the moment in Australian television history.

“There have been so many parts of David’s story that have given me a great sense of pride and which have been an absolute honour to portray; from discovering Paul was his dad, to his coming out to now marrying the man of his dreams in what will be the first legal gay wedding on a drama.”

Wilson adds that the episode is the highlight of his career.

“This story means a lot to me, my friends and to all the fans we hear from on a daily basis here and in the UK who love Aaron and David.”

Actor and activist Magda Szubanski is also set to star in the episode as Aaron and David’s marriage celebrant.

“I really think popular culture shows like this can change consciousness,” Szubanski said upon casting.

“They can change people’s attitudes so this reflects some of the changes alreayd happened and will hopefully normalise further that we’re people just like everybody else.”

The union will mark the 33-year-old Aussie TV staple’s first same-gender marriage, and the first since the nation voted yes in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey.

Check out the teaser below. The episode is set to air on Monday September 3rd on Ten.
