Former WA AIDS Council Chairperson Willie Rowe was appointed Vice President of the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) yesterday.
AFAO also announced Ian Rankin as its new President, replacing Graham Brown, the former Director of the WA Centre for Health Promotion Research. Brown has been the AFAO President since 2008.
AFAO Executive Officer Rob Lake said the new President and Vice President won their positions from a strong field of Australian and international candidates.
‘Securing Ian as AFAO President will be a real boon to our organisation’s work,’ Lake said.
‘Ian has been a prominent figure in the field for many years now and is, of course, no stranger to AFAO’s vital work, having previously served as President. He also comes with an impressive background in the government sector.
‘And I am equally delighted to have Willie on board as Vice President. Willie comes with a wealth of experience, having served as a member of the WA AIDS Council Board of Management for over ten years, including three years as Chairperson.
‘AFAO can now continue to look to the future with confidence, having secured these excellent senior members for our Board.’
