Tomboy (M)

Directed by Ciline Sciamma

A French family move to the outskirts of Paris with their two daughters. Six year old Jeanne (Maloun Levana) is impossibly cute with her dark curls and pink ballet frocks, while 10 year old tomboy Laure (Zoe Horan) is the opposite. When the local children mistake Laure for a boy, she cheerfully pretends to be Michael.

As the children run around enjoying the freedoms of the summer holidays, Laure concentrates on playing her role to perfection and even has the support of her younger sister. Her mother is pleased that her eldest daughter is finally friends with a girl, the pretty Lisa (Jeanne Diddon), but the audience knows that is only a matter of time before Laure will be exposed. This sweet drama screens as part of the Perth Festival, at Joondalup Pines (Edith Cowan University) 6-11 December.
