MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle steals the mace in British parliament

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, the gay British MP who made headlines around the world after he revealed his HIV positive status ahead of World AIDS Day, has been thrown out of the parliament after taking the ceremonial mace in protest.

On Monday Russell-Moyle was incensed that the Prime Minister Theresa May had delayed the vote on the Brexit deal, and in protest stood up and grabbed the ceremonial mace that symbolically allows parliament to sit.

With Speaker of the House John Bercow shouting “Order, put it back”, Russell-Moyle took the mace and walked towards the exit. The politician returned the mace to staff and was banned from parliament for the remainder of the day.

He later tweeted, “Thankfully they haven’t locked me in the Tower of London but if they had I’d expect May to be in the cell next to me for her treatment of Parliament today.” the Labour MP said.

“I’m allowed back tomorrow after my symbolic protest against this government, wish May wasn’t allowed back.”
