Janjep Carlos from The Philippines is crowned Mr Gay World

John Jeffrey ‘Janjep’ Carlos from The Philippines has been crowned Mr Gay World 2019. The competition was held in South Africa over the last few days, after the original host country Hong Kong was was forced to pull out at the last minute.

Francisco Alvarado from Spain was declared 1st runner-up while Hungary’s Oliver Puszatai was 2nd runner-up. Chayodhom Samibat from Thailand was 3rd runner-up, and Belgium’s Nick Van Vooren was 4th runner-up.

During his campaign Carlos has been an advocate for mental health issues, especially depression.

Carlos takes over the role from Perth’s own Jordan Bruno. Bruno posted a message to social media noting the end of his reign, saying it was a life changing experience.

“This competition has allowed me meet some of the most inspiring people from across the world and I have so much gratitude for the opportunity!”
