Olivia for marriage equality

Olivia Newton JohnFresh from a stellar turn as a riotous mother-of-the-bride in A Few Best Men, the new flick from director Stephan Elliot (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Olivia Newton-John has added her voice to the chorus calling for marriage equality in Australia.

In a statement released today to Australian Marriage Equality, Ms Newton-John said;

“With respect to marriage equality I believe that no one has the right to judge and deny couples who love each other the ability to make a marriage commitment. Love is love.”

Ms Newton-John is the latest of a number of Australian celebrities including Hugh Jackman, David Stratton, Margaret Pomeranz, Lizzy Gardiner and rugby player David Pocock to announce their support for marriage equality.

At a fundraising dinner to be held for Australian Marriage Equality this week, Stephan Elliot is expected to announce more prominent Australians who are going public in their support equal marriage rights for same sex couples.

Correction: An earlier version of this article described David Pocock as ‘Wallaby’s Captain’, this was incorrect. David Pocock has previously captained the Wallabys but is not currently the captain. The current captain is James Horwill.
