Mitchell picked up the Best Short Story prize for his work Us Boys Made Of Smoke.

The story will be published in a future edition of the Mascara Literary Review. The prize was judged by the publication’s editor Effie Carr and author Helena Fox.

While Mitchell was the winner of the award, author Jamil Badi’s work was also highly commended.

This year the competition focussed on stories that covered taboo areas, and the winner receives a prize of $1,000 alongside the publication of their pieces.

Scott-Patrick Mitchell is a regular contributor to OUTinPerth.
