Fabulously Queer Radio Play Sought

One of the members of the insight presents theatre companyIf statistics can be believed, at least one in ten people are anything but straight, so the insight presents radio theatre company in Adelaide, South Australia is seeking a queer radio play to record as part of the 2008 Feast Festival. As part of their commitment to providing entertainment of all genres, insight presents is seeking a half-hour radio play with gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT) themes that would be suitable for a general audience.

The company is currently in the process of selecting plays for their 2008 season, where they intend to participate in the Feast Festival. The successful submission will be paired with a preselected gay romantic comedy, with both plays recorded before an audience for national radio broadcast, using live sound effects and music.

Playwrights should take the following mandatory requirements into consideration before submitting a play:

  • 1. The play’s primary plot must be a GLBT story
  • 2. Plays may be of any genre; however “entertainment” should be the primary focus
  • 3. The play must have a run time no longer than 25 minutes and be a stand-alone story
  • 4. Plays will be recorded for broadcast in front of an audience with sound effects created live on stage
  • 5. While the targeted live audience will primarily be members of the GLBT communities, plays must also be suitable for a general radio listening audience
  • 6. The play must meet the Australian Community Broadcasters’ Code of Practice or the playwright must be willing to have his/her work edited to meet the Code
  • 7. The play does not have to be a new work and is not limited to Australian playwrights

There is no deadline for submissions, but plays will be considered in order of receipt.
