Three years after he came out to his family and friends Sivan shared his sexuality with his fans.

“This is not something that I’m ashamed of, and it’s not something that anyone should have to be ashamed of,” said Sivan in his announcement.

Sivan shared his coming out process explaining that his sexuality was something he was always aware of, and that at fourteen years of age he first shared his thoughts about his sexuality with a friend. The actor says YouTube videos of other people’s coming out experiences and the ‘It Get’s Better Project’ were very helpful to him.

“I watched pretty much every coming out video on YouTube that has ever been posted,” Sivan declared, “Those coming out videos on YouTube from those brave brave people, without those videos I don’t know where I’d be. I don’t know what I would have done.”

Watching other people’s video’s showed Sivan that gay people are out there living healthy and happy lives, something Sivan hopes his own coming out video will be helpful to other gay youth.

Sivan’s acting career includes playing the young James Howlett in the movie ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and a staring role in the successful South African films ‘Spud’ and ‘Spud 2’. Sivan has recently been in South Africa filming Spud 3. Sivan lives in Perth.
