Around The World

Since this is my first column I should introduce myself. My name is Ron Smith. I am a former actor and went by the name Ronnie Kerr. Yes, you can Google away. I am now a trainer and have been for some time. Some of my bigger clients include Julie Benz (Dexter, Angel, Saw V), Clare Kramer (Buff, Bring it on!), Samaire Armstrong (The OC, Entourage) and Hillary Swank (PS I love You, Million Dollar Baby).

I got into training because of my love of fitness, I have done well based on chance and my desire to implement science into my training. Each month I will print one member letter. The one that gets printed, I will design a custom exercise program for. Nice huh? Please submit questions to Ron@RonSmithFitness.com.

Currently I am in Dallas, Texas, as I opened a high end fitness facility, Equinox. Second order of business was spending time with country singer Leanne Rhimes. This is one in shape girl. Kettle bells are her forte and she could out lift most guys.

Tricia time – I will also always print one piece of training gossip to let you know that celebs sweat the same as you. Today’s tidbit? While training Julie Benz in Thailand for Rambo, our exercise trailer couldn’t come to all part of the country we were shooting in and we had to improvise. Little Julie Benz climbed trees, used chairs and did high intensity cardio to stay fit. Julie also did about 80% of her own stunts.

Celeb guessing game – First, not every celeb I train is listed above. Guess the correct celeb and get a very good prize. This celeb was given over 50 training sessions by Universal to train for a movie. She wanted to train with her boyfriend at the same time. Now normally, if two people are training you would get charged for two sessions for the one hour. When she was done using the training and had some sessions left over so Queen Cheap-o wanted to get the remainder of the sessions personally refunded to her… even though she didn’t pay for them. This particular actress commands several million dollars a film. Thoughts? One guess per person so drop me an email.

This month we are going to focus on goal setting. You need to pick a fitness goal. You can’t get to where you are going without one. So pick it, big or small, short or long term, pick it. What do you want to do to your body? Many of you have said visible abs or to tighten up. Now, let’s set a timeline. Winter is beginning so we have a nice little bit to get us through until summer. Be honest with yourself. The weight did not come on in a week and it’s not going to come off in a week. A realistic ideal is to loose 1 to 2% of body fat a week. You need to get tested before you begin. If you don’t want to head off and get tested simply have a friend you trust take a set of circumference measurements’ so you have something to compare it to after a few weeks. Stay off the scale. This little device is not a measure means of success. Pick you goal, set your timeline and post it up on your fridge. You need to keep yourself accountable. Email me if you need support! Let’s get focused and touch base next month.

Ron Smith… celebrity trainer and fitness expert spends his time between Los Angeles and Perth.
