Celluloid Cellulite

Does everybody look good in Hollywood? No, apparently not, especially if the paparazzi are anything to go by. These modern day snap happy stalkers seemingly pride themselves on endless ‘fat day photos’ and starlets shot without a stitch of make-up on. After all, it imbues these untouchable icons with a hint of humanity. Such is the premise of the debut solo show, Celebrity Ugly Days, from local illustrator Pippa McManus. This satirical, cutting collection of new works from McManus presents celebutants, heirdos and other miscreants from the celebocracy in all their glory – stooped, cigarette smoking shadows of their on-screen personas. These un-photogenic renditions of paparazzi shots show the humanity of these inhuman creations, almost ridiculing the larger than life presence we place on such creatures. Celebrity Ugly Days appears at Keith + Lottie Gallery in Northbridge from February 6 to 22, with opening night drinks February 6 at 6pm. www.keithandlottie.com
