Every Monday we take a look across the musical landscape and cast our eye over the new arrivals. The freshest tracks and videos that have recently landed. This week’s there’s a lot of new music – so it’s our biggest edition ever.
This week we check out new offerings from 16 different artists, including Charlie Jeer and Cat Burns, Tsatsamis, Kim Petras, Mark Lee, Robbie Williams and many more.
What a bumper week!
Charlie Jeer & Cat Burns
Cat Burns is probably best known in Australia for her role on the Celebrity Traitors UK, but above and beyond being good at keeping secrets, she’s primarily known for being a great musician. Here she teams up with Charlie Jeer, this easy going number is from his forthcoming EP. Their collaboration began after Burns left a message on a video from one of Jeer’s earlier songs.
Jeer is touring this November playing shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – but has skipped Perth on his itinerary. Cat Burns is set to play The Rechabite in Perth on Wednesday 14 October, followed by shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Tsatsamis – Violent Thoughts
British songwriter and musician Tsatsamis is back with another tune. This is taken from his Tsychophant mixtape that came out back in April – but a live version has just been released.
Miley – Let’s Get Married
This is the latest single from Miley (she’s dropped the Cyrus). It’s taek noff her new album Bass Persuades which was released on Friday. The track is written by Cyrus and her regular team of producers and writers including Aldae, Kid Harpoon and Michael Pollack, but they also roped in production team The Monsterz and Strangerz. They’ve created songs for Kylie Minogue, Betty Who, Justin Beiber and Lizzo.
Carly Rae Jepsen – Versailles
Another album that arrived on Friday, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Day and Night features 24 tracks, one for each hour of the day. However if you buy the album in Japan it comes with 26 tracks, which surely should have been retiled Day and Night and early tomorrow morning too.
Robbie Williams & Miss Monique – Beauty is Us
An unexpected 90s sounding club banger from Robbie Williams and EDM artist Miss Monique. They made a surprise appearance at Carl Cox’s Ibiza show to preview the track.
Bright Lights Bright Lights – I Want Your Hands On Me
An unexpected cover from Bright Lights Bright Lights. This song was originally recorded by Sinead O’Connor and appears on her 1988 debut album The Lion and the Cobra.
Cain Culto – 2 Wolves
Cain Culto is the performance name of Andrew Escovedo Padilla. Here he draws on his own experiences of being subjected to conversion therapy.
Pedro Santos – Should Have Known Better
Santos hails from Portugal and is based in the UK. He’s just delivered this shimmering slice of pop goodness.
Kim Petras – Autobahn
Kim Petras has just released a deluxe version of her Detour album, it’s called Detour (Rare N’ Deluxe). It features four new tracks not on the original incarnation of the record, including this banger – Autobahn. Petras says the song was inspired by the music that was around at the beginning of the century like Michelle Branch.
Isak Danielson – Goodbye to a Lover Again
The Swedish singer Isak Danielson reflects on the challenges of modern dating on this simple piano ballad.
“‘Goodbye To A Lover Again’ is my view on the gay dating culture, and how it’s so driven by a pursuit of validation, attention and sex,” Danielson explains. “How difficult it is to form lasting bonds and how it slowly breaks down your self-esteem.”
Teeks- Overdose
New Zealand’s Teeks offers up this soulful jam, Overdose. His highly anticipated second album Lovers Comet will arrive in October. He’s about to tour Australia too. The tour will begin at Perth’s Astor Theatre on 10 November, before heading to Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide.
Orville Peck – Ran Out of Road
Peck’s new album Mule arrived on Friday and the while album is a story about rehab and rebirth. This is one of the most upbeat tracks on the record. We’re impressed his mask stayed on with all the running.
ANDY – Can’t Wait
Australian artist Andy has tapped some famous sporting faces for this clip. Rugby legend Ian Roberts, the first gay man to come out in Australian Rugby League, and Mitch Brown, the first bisexual man to come out from the world of AFL, both appear. Released just ahead of the last Sunday in September, it makes a big comment about sexuality, masculinity and Australian sports.
JJ – Not Afraid
A new dance track from Euovision champ JJ.
Gus Dapperton – Queen
Another tune and video that has a statement about masculinity. Dapperton released his debut album in 2019, and his fourth record 4 Dear Life is expected this October.
Mark Lee – My Friend
Mark Lee was born in Canada but found success in Korea. He was a member of the band NCT and the supergroup SuperM. His debut solo album came out last year, but this is the first taste from the next chapter in his career.
