The town of Coolgardie celebrates its riches on September 16, as it marks the 115th anniversary of Western Australia’s first gold rush. The gold rush of 1892 led to a boom in Coolgardie, which was at one point Western Australia’s third biggest town after Perth and Fremantle. For Coolgardie Day 2007, the streets of the city known as the ‘Mother of the Eastern Goldfields’ come alive with a street carnival, while museums exhibits commemorate ‘gold’en days gone by.
