On February 5th, mourners gathered for the Perth memorial service of movie star Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental drug overdose in his Manhattan apartment on January 22. Co-star Cate Blanchett gave what was widely reported to be a moving eulogy to an estimated 600 people in attendance at Penrhos College in Como where the service was held. The family acknowledged ‘the uplifting, warm and massive outpouring of grief and support… from every corner of the planet’, but requested that media and the public respect their right to grieve in private as they held a small, immediate-family only funeral service following the memorial.
