Illinois Holds Back on Marriage Equality

illinois-map[1]Illinois is yet to become the 13th state in America to legalise same-sex marriage, the Illinois House of Representatives failed to bring up the legislative change, meaning the chance to bring up the issue will not arise again until next Autumn.

It is alleged that lawmakers have been dragging out bringing up the issue of same-sex marriage in parliament, leaving the legislation as well as other important issues until the last minute.

Openly gay Republican Greg Harris fronted the bill; LGBT advocates have expressed concern about the likelihood of marriage equality in the state.

Governor Pat Quinn, who supports the legislative change, spoke out about the failure to discuss the issue.

“I am disappointed that the House of Representatives in the Land of Lincoln did not pass a historic measure that would have guaranteed equal rights and benefits for all citizens.

“This is not over. The fight goes on. We will keep on fighting until marriage equality is law in Illinois”, he said.
