The barkcloths are created first in cloth and then painted with designs using natural dyes and ash, and ceremonial ritual and stories of the ancestral past play a part in the enhancement of the iconography used. Although this is their first major exhibit in WA, the fledgling artists’ cooperative have over a dozen works in major collections including the National Gallery of Australia.
