On May 9, Fremantle Community Legal Centre is collaborating with local law firms to offer free legal advice from 9am-4pm at the Woolstores Shopping Centre in Fremantle.

If you’re interested on brushing up on your knowledge of the law as it relates to gay and lesbian issues, it might be a good time to visit long running website www.equalityrules.info and download their guide to equality for gays and lesbians under WA Law. The site was a joint project between GALE and GLCS to bring information about changes to the law in 2002, but is well-maintained and up-to-date.

Following Law Week, ‘Living National Treasure’ Julian Burnside QC, a human rights and refugee advocate known for his strong stance opposing the mandatory detention of asylum seekers, is delivering two free lectures in Perth.

First off the ranks is the Janine Haynes Annual Lecture for 2007 on ‘Human Rights and Democracy in Australia’ @ Social Sciences Lecture Theatre UWA on Wednesday 16 May at 6.30pm. His second lecture entitled ‘Revolution on the Pacific Solution’ is on behalf of CASE for Refugees and will be held on Thursday 17 May at Central Park Theatrette from noon-2pm. RSVP to the latter at admin@caseforrefugees.org.au.
