Local Queer Cafe Introduces Suspended Coffee

15261_10151864563044816_1741311759_n[1]Queer friendly café ‘The Sparrows Nest’ has become the first café in Perth to offer suspended coffee for those in need.

The owner, Lara Wolinski, heard of the idea through a regular customer and decided immediately to introduce the concept.

“Put simply, you can anonymously buy a coffee for someone who is less fortunate than yourself. It is a tradition that started in Naples around a hundred years ago, where coffee was not considered to be a treat, but rather a basic human right”.

If you head down to The Sparrows Nest and purchase a suspended coffee with your own, you could be buying coffee for a homeless person, a struggling student, or someone who has just lost their job. Wolinski will also match your suspended coffee with a meal for those who are particularly in need.

“We hope to spread the word and get people around Perth coming in to support those less fortunate, and we encourage anyone who needs a bit of a helping hand to come down to The Nest and benefit from the generosity of others”, said Wolinski.

Currently, suspended coffees are distributed in 13 countries worldwide.
