This month, as with most months, we had new some players come along. And they said, like most of us did, ‘I haven’t played since High School!’ However, with a racquet provided, and a good sense of humour, it wasn’t long before they were smashing, lobbing and dropshotting their way through games. There was the odd lopsided match, but for the most part games were very close, with just a point or two in it. We still haven’t named ourselves yet and have thrown around some potential names, including ‘The Subtle Cocks’ and ‘Happy Slappers’. Come down this month and have a go at a game and a name.

Tennis – Loton Park Club Championship

Claire & Kelly won a rain delayed doubles match to reach the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they were beaten in a tough match by Sonia & Lisa who were subsequently defeated by Loma & Erin in the Ladies Doubles Finals with the latter the winning in two close sets. Kelly, who only began her tennis career this year, was the most improved player, surprising everyone by winning the Ladies Division 2 Singles Plate. The Men’s Open Singles was another close match with last year’s winner, Geoff, retaining the title. The Men’s Open Doubles was a hard fought 3 sets with Troy & Mark defeating the previous year’s winners. The Open Mixed Doubles was played on Anzac Day due to rain delays. After nearly 3 hours of intense tennis, Geoff & Jocelyn defeated Troy & Bev. Overall it was a competitive, yet fun Club Championships with a record number of members getting involved either by playing, helping or supporting. For photos from the event, see the photo gallery.
