Martha Wainwright announces Australian tour

Martha Wainwright has announced she’ll tour Australia in 2017.

The singer-songwriter declared that she will return to Australia for an extensive ten-date run in March 2017, the first stop on the tour will be The Astor Theatre in Perth.

After her show on The Astor on Wednesday 8th March, Wainwright will head to Sydney, Thirroul, Canberra, Newcastle, Lismore and Brisbane. The tour will wrap up with Hobart, Devonport and Bendigo performances.

Tickets are on sale at 10am local time, from Friday 11th November.

On this visit, Wainwright will be accompanied on vocals and guitar by a three-piece band, comprising drums, piano and bass.

Martha’s new album, her first in four years, Goodnight City will be released tomorrow.

The 13-track album is described as being confessional, impressionistic and dynamic, featuring songs that twist and turn with a surging intensity, while showcasing her distinguished songwriting craft and an astonishingly versatile voice.

Goodnight City includes several original works as well as songs written for the album by Beth Orton, brother Rufus Wainwright, author Michael Ondaatje and Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard.

 

Joining Martha as special guests on the full tour are local folk-rock duo Oh Pep!.
