Producers have confirmed that in the show’s 27th season, (gosh has it been that long), Mr Burns long suffering assistant will tell his boss that he has feelings for him.

The producers won’t confirm if Mr Smither’s actually comes out to Mr Burns but do say they they will explore the relationship further over two episodes of the new series.

Smither’s won’t be the first gay character on the show, Marge’s sister Patty came out as a lesbian back in 2005, and Duffman was outed in 2008.

The new series also sees Marge heading to jail in a parody of the popular TV series ‘Orange is the New Black’.
