New Leadership For PrideWA

A changing of the guard for Pride WA will see both co-presidents step down at the committee’s annual general meeting this month.

Co-presidents Sharlene Dixon and Charles Denham will conclude their leadership roles at the elections on 28 March. Dixon has been on the committee for four years now while Denham has been co-president since 2009.

Additionally Pride WA’s marketing and fairday co-convener Jason Chrisp will also be departing from the committee at the AGM.

Male president Charles Denham said all committee positions were open every year. Nominations are open only to Pride WA members and must be submitted by 5pm, Friday 25 March to be considered.

‘We will not know who is definitely leaving the committee until all the nominations have/haven’t been received,’ Denham said.

‘Presently it is known that Sharlene, [myself] and Jason will be leaving the committee. Community involvement with the AGM is mainly to fill the committee for next year.’

At the Pride WA AGM, people nominate to be elected to the committee while positions were delegated at the first meeting. Denham said the AGM was ‘mostly about presenting the accounts for the year’.

As for the coming year, Denham said it was ‘proving difficult’ to settle event dates for Pride month due to Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) also in Perth in October. He said there remained ‘quite a lot of unknowns at this stage’.

The Pride WA AGM will be held at Loton Park Tennis Club – 6.30pm, Monday 28 March.
