New play ‘Red Ticket’ arrives at The Blue Room this week

A new gothic thriller arrives at the Blue Room Theatre this week. Red Ticket promises to be both an emotional roller coaster and an education in mental health.

Josie Walsh’s powerful writing in her directorial debut, now it’s third stage development, has been a runaway success.

Inspired by the true history of the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum, now an Arts Centre, the play follows new mum Lily, turning to art to overcome the crushing weight of post-natal depression.  However, her new sanctuary is shattered when she discovers the story of Poppy Florence Grey, a woman confined to the asylum a century earlier with the same condition.

What happens when the walls of a sanctuary whisper the secrets of the past?

Red Ticket promises to be a gripping exploration of the dark history of psychiatric treatment and finding help after a mental breakdown.

“I wanted to honour the stories of women who were ignored in the past” Walsh said, “and also show that help is out there”.

“Be prepared to give your emotions a workout on a roller coaster journey through time, which ultimately lands in a good place.”

The play is performed by Krysia Wiechecki, Kate Naunton Morgan and Hannah-Mary Anderson.

Red Ticket is showing at The Blue Room Theatre from the 7 – 18 of April and tickets are on sale now.
