Six months ago we were all shocked when it looked like OUTinPerth might disappear from our lives.
When the company behind our publication closed we faced the possibility that the magazine would not continue.
We worked quickly to create a new company to house the magazine and successfully bid to obtain the archives and intellectual property associated with OUTinPerth.
This month we’re sharing those archives with you, firstly through a photo exhibition in our office space on the opening weekend of PrideFEST, and secondly with a reading room featuring LGBTIQ publications from around Australia.
Drop by our office between Monday 14 November to Friday 18 November to take a trip back in time and see what people were talking about in years gone by.
We’ve still got a long way to go to ensuring that Western Australia has an independent LGBTIQ print publication in the future.
To date 106 people have contributed to our fundraising campaign to rebuild OUTinPerth. We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported us, and the many others who have attended fundraising events we’ve held.
To date the campaign has raised just over $12,000, which is a long way off the $45,000 needed to guarantee the magazine’s sustainability.
While we have opened a new office, and continued to bring out the monthly magazine, we need assistance to purchase computers, cameras and essential software.
One of the great development’s in the last six months is the huge number of people who have signed up to become contrinuting writers, reviewers and photographers for the magazine and website. We’re excited that we’re now able to be a platform for a much more diverse range of voices.
If you like reading the magazine, logging on to our website, or getting our week day e-news in your inbox. Head to our GoFundMe page and show your support.
We’re grateful for everyone’s support so far, and look forward to covering as many PrideFEST event’s as possible.
Happy Pride!
