Pride: it's just around the corner

It’s here, the Pride season 2011, and we’ve got so much going on. The Festival Guide will be your best friend to guide you through all things Pride and is as jam-packed as always. But don’t forget to check out our new website for all your online Pride information.

Having to move things around because of CHOGM has added a bit of variety this year, for example The City of Perth Pride Fairday being on a Saturday, and the Parade being a little later in the year, but we’re embracing the change and looking forward to the season.

During the Festival this year you’ve got the chance to get biblical with a modern mirror balled take of the first hook up from the Wet Weather Ensemble, at Adam and Eve. Get caught up in a web of seductive tales direct from the Edinburgh Fringe in Flirt Fiction, by Red Rabbit Collective, both at The Blue Room Theatre. Be taken on a fabulous journey into the world of Drag at the Metcalfe Playhouse with Perth’s famous Drag queens and enter into an ongoing experiment in the outrageous, at Voix le da Ville at the Bakery.

Grouped with sundowners, the film festival at Cinema Paradiso, a performance from GALSWA, cooking classes and heaps of other things to see and do, your diary should be jam packed.

We’ve also got something special for the under 18’s this season. Sponsored by YMCA HQ & The Freedom Centre we are pleased to announce this year’s Queer Under Age party at the HQ in Leederville. With the theme ‘Born This Way’, we’re encouraging all our little monsters to dress in their most artistic outfits! Miss Double-D Merits and Tara Fyde will be hosting the event bringing some Gaga-themed production shows to the stage with DJ Drew Green on the decks pumping all the latest fabulous tunes!

As it’s creeping closer, make sure to start working on ideas for your float for this year’s Parade. We’ve given you free rein this year as the theme is pretty broad, so get your creative head on and make sure you wow everyone with your idea of what ‘For Our Community’ means to you.

We’re still looking for volunteers for the Parade. If you’re interested, send an email to Brian at pride@pridewa.asn.au to get involved and receive your choice of either a free ticket to one of our after parade parties or a year’s free Pride membership.

This year’s parties boast some amazing entertainment with Peyton, Sydney’s Digital Damage, Melbourne’s Sneaker Fox and many others creating the Connections line up. For Her, the female after party, we are looking to find Perth’s best upcoming female DJ, ready to play the night away at Harry’s Bar, in Northbridge.
