The trailer opens with the familiar voice of James Earl Jones as Mufasa, telling young Simba of his destiny to become king of all the light touches.

The preview shows a near complete recreation of the original film’s opening scene, with a just born Simba being presented to the kingdom by wise baboon Rafiki.

The new film stars Donald Glover as the king-in-waiting Simba, Beyonce as the tenacious Nala, John Oliver as the pompous toucan advisor Zazu, comedians Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as warthog and meerkat duo Timon and Pumbaa and Chiwetel Eijofor as the villainous Scar.

Watch the trailer below. The Lion King premieres July 2019.
