Review: BRIEFS sensational fringe show

BriefsA bearded man in a bikini cavorting with hula hoops, a plate spinning display that keeps you on the edge of your seat, hot men swinging on ropes right above the audience’s heads, a mesmerizing performance from the award winning King of Burlesque and a crazy-as, slap-hazard bogan drag queen who will make you roar with laughter while she’s trying to keep it all together. This was the experience of watching Briefs.

The comedic boylesque troupe had a sold out opening last night in The Speigeltent at Fringeworld. The intimate settings of the hundred year old The Pearl the perfect location for this show which was high on skill while maintaining a carefree and fresh persona. It was like you just walked in to a private party with some drunken madcap circus performers.

The show is lead by Shivannah, a drag artist proudly from Ipswich Queensland, who managed multiple costume changes throughout the night. Shivannah’s politically incorrect spiel describing how to successfully gain arts funding had the audience howling with laughter. This is one drag queen who knows how to work a room.

The great achievement of this show is that it makes everyone watching it feel good. Even if you don’t have the greatest body in the world, maybe you have some other talent to awe people with like sword balancing, plate spinning or doing back flips. Briefs was fun, frivolous and captivating from start to finish.

Saturday night’s show is sold out but you can still grab tickets for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s show. This is a great show that’s worth every cent of the ticket price.
