Former RTRFM Breakfast host Caitlin Nienaber has been awarded the local industry’s highest honour The Golden WAMi. Nienaber who hosts the community radio station’s Breakfast program for three and a half years recently stepped down from her role to take up a new position at Double J in Sydney.
Ahead of this weekend’s huge WAMFest & WAMCon program, the 2018 WAMAwards were held at The Hyatt Regency.
THe awards saw many local bands scoring multiple accolades. It was a big night of doubling down with Alana Macpherson, Caitlin Nienaber, Carla Geneve, Feels, Jacob Diamond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Odette Mercy all receiving two awards each.
But ultimately it was Elise Reitze-Swensen and Rosie Taylor of electronic duo Feels who lead the way with three awards, with their label WOMPP (Women Of Music Production Perth) picking up the award for Label Of The Year on top of awards for Best Live Electronic Act and Best Electronic Producer.
Caitlin Nienaber was awarded both Industry Representative of the Year and the prestigious Golden WAMi. Having hung up the headphones to head East earlier this year, the awards were a perfect parting gift for Caitlin who flew back to celebrate the win with Perth’s music community.
For the fifth year in a row, North Fremantle’s Mojos Bar picked up the award for Most Popular Venue. The Annual Kiss My Camera awards went out to Denis Radacic, Emanual Rudnicki, and Matsu.
The night also featured performances by Hall of Fame inductees The Stems, award winners Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Carla Geneve, Hyclass and award nominees Gemma Farrell Quintet, Your Girl Pho, and Ralway Bell.
Head to WAMfest to find out all the events occurring during the festival.
