Rugby star Israel Folau declares his opposition to marriage equality

Australian Rugby League may have declared their support for marriage equality, same-sex couples and rainbow families, but one of the game’s biggest stars has declared his opposition.

The Wallabies superstar player Israel Folau has declared he’s not in favour of same-sex couples being allowed to wed.

“I love and respect all people for who they are and their opinions. but personally, I will not support gay marriage.” posted to his Twitter account.

Fans of sportsman tweeted him back with a range of responses, many of them disappointed that he was making a public stance against marriage equality.

The rugby player has previously spoken about his religious beliefs, he was formerly a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and later joined the Assemblies of God Pentecostal church group.
