Two local organisations are teaming up to freshen up the dunes of one of the community’s favourite locations: Swanbourne Nudist Beach.
LGBTIQA+ support organisation WAAC (part of the new thread: community + health brand) and queer rugby squad Perth Rams are hosting the first ever Swanbourne CleanUP.
The event features a community-led clean up of the beach and dunes, following a safety briefing, as well as a barbecue put on by the Ram and a few rounds of beach rugby.
“With the sun coming back out and summer about to start, we thought it would be a good time to get up into the dunes and to make sure they are all cleaned up and safer for anyone looking for a bit of outdoor fun”, said Stewart Wheeler, Marketing Advisor at WAAC, and one of the organisers of the event.
WAAC was founded by gay and bi men to support the local community through the AIDS crisis, and that community-first spirit is still at the heart of its work.
“Thankfully HIV is now preventable and manageable, but WAAC are always looking for ways to keep the community safe, even if that means heading to the local beat and cleaning up a mess!”, said Stewart.
“The Perth Rams have always been supporters of WAAC, and as one of the biggest inclusive sporting clubs in WA, it is a huge help to have them put their hand up and volunteer to help us out!”
Swanbourne CleanUP will be held on Saturday, 31 October from 10am. For more, head to Facebook.
