Bernard Gaynor: Outraged at Rainbow Cufflinks, Christine Forster and Trans* People

Bernard-GaynorBernard Gaynor, the former army officer and current army reserve officer, who was stood down from Katter’s Australian Party, is not happy about the army’s new gay cufflinks, the Prime Minister’s sister Christine Forster and leading trans* advocate Cate McGregor.

In a series of blog posts this week Gaynor has shared his opinions on a range of topics about the LGBTI community.

The Cufflinks

The Australian Defense Forces have just made a cufflink available to personnel that includes the rainbow symbol. Gaynor claims the Australian Defense Force has been taken over activists and it’s promotion of homosexuality would make “normal Australians shudder.”.

“Defence has been hijacked by activists who are not interested in fighting and defeating an enemy. Instead, they are focused on using Defence to promote their grotesque social agenda,” Gaynor said.   The right wing activist has said the new Minister for Defence, Hon Senator David Johnston, is going to “need courage to remove the freaks from the ranks.”

Christine Forster

The army isn’t the only think Gaynor’s worked up about, he’s also full of advice for Christine Forster, the sister of Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Gaynor criticises Forster’s calls for same sex marriage calling it “real marriage” vs “glorified homosexual relations”. Gaynor chastises Forster for divorcing her former husband, saying Forester should have honored her ’till death do us part’ pledge and has shown contempt for marriage by leaving her husband.

Cate McGregor

Gaynor also shares his thoughts on ABC journalist Jane Hutcheon being nominated for a Human Rights Award. Hutcheon is being praised for her story on Army Speechwriter Cate McGregor who was being bullied by online bloggers. Hutcheon’s piece was about a post Gaynor wrote on his blog, and he has repeated his attack on McGregor, referring to her and ‘him’ through out the piece and arguing that trans* women are not really women. McGregor and Gaynor have a history of online spats and the former has been counseled for inappropriate online behaviour, but it’s clear from his use of gender pronouns that Gaynor has little respect for trans* people.
