Hillary Clinton Announces Presidential Bid

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced her candidacy to become the next President of the United States.

In a low key announcement Clinton declared her intention via a media release and a video announcement.

Clinton, whose husband Bill Clinton was America’s 42nd president, is now the front-runner for the Democratic Party’s nomination ahead of the November 2016 election. Clinton previously ran for President eight years ago, losing out to Barack Obama.

In her announcement Clinton said she she was ready to be a champion for everyday Americans.

“Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times,” she said, “but the deck is still stacked in favour of those at the top.

“Everyday Americans need a champion and I want to be that champion,” Clinton said.

The video featured a variety of people discussing the future including a gay couple sharing their plans to wed.

Clinton is recognised as a long term supporter of LGBTIQ rights. She declared her support for marriage equality in 2013 and has raised gay rights with International leaders during her time as Secretary of State. Clinton also delivered a major speech in support of gay rights to the United Nations in Geneva in 2011.
