Ten years after Prince’s passing his estate releases a new tune

Ten years ago, Prince died. As the world marked a decade without the musician, his estate released a previously unheard recording.

With This Tear is a song that Prince wrote and recorded in the early 1990s around the time of his Diamond and Pearls and Love Symbol albums. The artist was a prolific creator of music, and throughout his career he recorded many unreleased albums that remain in the vaults at his Paisley Park recording studio.

At one stage this song was intended for Jevetta Steele, but it later made its way to Celine Dion who recorded a version for her self-titled 1992 album.

Now we get to hear Prince’s original recording where he plays all the instruments and it’s a much more stripped back affair. A full previously unreleased album is rumoured to be arriving later this year.

During his career Prince wrote songs for many other artists including The Bangles for whom he wrote Manic Monday, Martika scored one of her biggest hits when Price created Love Thy Will Be Done, and Sheena Easton shook off her girl-next-door image with Sugar Walls.

Prince also had a long list of artists he helped shape and created songs for including Jill Jones, Carmen Electra, Mavis Staples, Mayte, Sheila E, The Time and The Family. The Family were the first to record Nothing Compares 2 U which later became a mega-hit for Sinead O’Connor.
