$1000 Grants for Community Pride Floats

Pride WA is offering grants of up to $1,000 to individuals, not-for-profit groups or organisations to assist in funding their entries into the 2009 Pride Parade.

The organisation has put aside a total of $10,000 for the grants, which comes from money raised during last year’s festival.

The scheme is designed to improve the standard and impact of the parade and it is hoped the injection of funds will assist parade entrants to produce exciting and memorable entries.

The grants are not intended to wholly fund entries but rather to give them a boost – supporting quotes and a budget must be provided with applications.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday, September 18 and applicants will be notified of the results on Wednesday, September 30.

In addition to the grants, cash prizes of between $500 and $2,000 (and trophies) will be awarded for Best Float, Best Marching Group, Most Entertaining, Best Drag and Best Individual in Russell Square immediately following the parade.

This year’s Pride Festival theme is Homecoming and organisers say it will be a testament to the evolution of Perth’s GLBTIQ community over the last 20 years.

More details and an application form for the grants are available on the Pride website: www.pride.asn.au
