The Bird and the Bee: The Bird and the Bee

The Bird and the BeeAs their moniker suggests, The Bird and the Bee tackles the act of coupling and its emotional repercussions. Fronted by angelic-voiced singer Inara George (daughter of late Little Feat frontman Lowell George) and multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin, b&b create space-age pop that cunningly combines bossa nova languidity with Beach Boys styled lushness, topped off with electronic indie pop catchiness. The sugary melodies are balanced by the tart lyrics, where George pecks at manipulative dudes (F*cking Boyfriend) and ruminates about failed flings (I’m a Broken Heart). Interestingly enough the track ‘Preparedness’ sounds like a remake of parts of my favourite Beatles track ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’. On the whole, the CD reminds me of stuff produced seven to ten years ago by the likes of Isolée or even OST and the electroclash/house groups before they became de rigour.
