Couch Potato: July's Soggy Chips

Big LoveBIG LOVE (Fri July 27, SBS – 10pm): Don’t get me wrong – this drama about a serial polygamist attempting to live a normal life whilst providing for and satisfying three wives all the while trying to keep all three of his families unaware of each other, is compelling, fun and rewarding viewing. Only, Bill Paxton (ALIENS) plays the polygamist, and though he’s a great actor, he looks like the Joker after a three week bout of insomnia. It’s the old ‘unattractive man getting the attentions of multiple hot women’ chestnut, also known as Seinfeld Syndrome.

RALPH TV (Thurs July 26, Nine – 11:15pm): RALPH magazine purports to be a men’s magazine, although from its content – cars, action movies, stunts and lots and lots of near-nude young women – one can reasonably modify that description to ‘HETEROSEXUAL Men’s Magazine’. Now the Book for Breeder Blokes is attempting to reclaim the Boob Tube – and, based on their magazine content, I assume they mean that literally.
