Pride Wraps Up in Rainy Weather

Pride Festival 2007 ended with the annual Parade and parties. This year there was a plethora of options for the post-parade entertainment – the Court, Connections, the official Party at Belmont Warehouse, and an all-girls Lick event. Yet, with all the advanced planning, the one thing beyond anyone’s control was the weather. The rain came sheeting down just before the parade, leaving many a-costumed floatee wet. Though there was still a sizeable crowd, the inclement weather did keep parade spectator numbers down from previous years. However, nothing could dampen the spirits of those marching, and according to Pride WA 47 floats participated in the parade, an increase from 2006.

Following the parade, Pride went all out for its after-party at Belmont Race Course with a lineup of DJs and entertainers from home and overseas, including DJ Lisa Loud and performer Courtney Act. While Pride was unable to release final party costs when OUTinPerth went to press, Pride was able to disclose that 780 people attended the party with the total revenue from the party coming to $35,808. Pride WA were also unable to confirm whether the party broke even, saying that they will publicly announce final figures when audits are complete. This announcement is expected at the latest for early next year for Pride’s AGM.

Male Co-President Dean Cahill, behalf of the 2007 Pride committee ‘thanks all the volunteers that assisted through the month long festival, Fairday, events, parade and party and all community groups for their participation. Without them, there would be no Pride.’

Late Breaking News: As we went to press for our November edition, OUTinPerth has been informed Female Co-President, Silvia Pitcher has formally resigned. This follows the resignation of committee member Kellene Elder earlier in the week, meaning the Pride Committee currently has only five members. As more news comes to hand on the situation we’ll keep you updated at www.www.outinperth.com.
