Kate Miller-Heidke – Little Eve

Comparisons have been made to Tori Amos and the greatest compliment that can be paid to newcomer Kate Miller-Heidke is that such comparisons are not completely unfounded. While it will require many more albums and tours to deserve the comparison, Miller-Heidke has laid the foundation with this album, particularly on tracks, such as ‘Little Adam’ whose finger-snapping and playfully punctuated vocals are perfect for a biblical illusion to the world’s first female temptress. The song’s opening gives way to a more knowing (in the biblical sense of the word) and seductive chorus and the two are the perfect juxtaposition of innocence and temptation. On other tracks, like ‘Ducks Don’t Need Satellites’ the attempts at irony, paradox and beatnik depth seem more imitation than inspiration. However, this album gives hope that the singer-songwriter will to push boundaries and improve with time.
