Review: Man on a Ledge

Man on a Ledge(PG) Directed by Asger Leth

There’s nothing like being an ex-cop in a high security prison, as Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) finds out. After being told that all avenues of appeal had been exhausted, he makes a desperate escape rather than face the next 25 years of incarceration. He books into an expensive Manhattan hotel, has a final meal of chips and champagne and climbs out onto a ledge 17 storeys up.

While he parries with police negotiator Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks), his brother Joey (Jamie Bell) and Joey’s girlfriend Angie (Genesis Rodriguez) undertake a risky venture in order to prove his innocence.

The moral of the story is that if someone takes something from you, then you should take it back … and more. Each moment of this film is deliciously excruciating as Nick is actually prepared to die and his adversary is mega-powerful and mega-rich. Barracking for Sam Worthington, I enjoyed every heart-pounding minute.
